From September to December 2023
the Jean Monnet Centre of excellence EU4GH hosted Prof. Titti Mattsson, Professor of Health Law and Director of the Health Law Research Centre (one of the EU4GH Centre’s official partners) at the Law Faculty of the University of Lund (Sweden). Prof. Mattsson lectured on topics of European Health Law in the framework of the EUGHL Course. Her module on “European Health Law: Legal and Ethical Perspectives” (fully taught in English) was especially tailored for the Erasmus students in mobility at the UNISA School of Law.
From 17 May to 17 June 2024
The Centre hosted Prof. Gabriela Oanta, Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the Faculty of Law of the University of La Coruña (Spain), Director of the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Europeos “Salvador de Madariaga” (formerly Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and one of the EU4GH Centre’s official partners), former Jean Monnet Chair in “EU Law of the Sea” and currently Jean Monnet Chair in “EU and the Law of Oceans: New Legal-Maritime Scenarios” (EUOLMS). Prof. Oanta’s research activity focused on the topic “The European Union as a privileged actor in a fragmented global health landscape”. She also gave a lecture at the Jean Monnet EU4GH Summer School on “The Legal and Institutional Framework for EU-WHO Relationships”.
From 2 to 30 June 2024
The Centre hosted Prof. Maria Isabel Torres Cazorla, Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the Faculty of Law of the University of Malaga (Spain) and Principal Investigator of the Research Project MESESA “Medio ambiente, seguridad y salud: nuevos retos del derecho en el siglo XXI”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Prof. Torres Cazorla’s research activity focused on the topic “EU goals on environment and health for the near future”. She also gave a lecture at the Jean Monnet EU4GH Summer School on “Environment and Health in EU Law: Bathing Water Quality as a Test Case”.
From 3 June to 22 July 2025
The Centre hosted Dr. Pedro A. Villarreal, Researcher at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Germany), Member of the EU4GH Expert Advisory Board and co-Principal Investigator of the research project “The EU Role in Global Health: a critical appraisal of synergies and (possible) tensions” (EU-GLOBE). Dr. Villarreal contributed to advance reflections on the EU role as a global health actor and the relationship between universalism and regionalism in global health law and governance. He also lectured twice at the Jean Monnet Summer School “The European Union and Global Health” on the EU Global Health Strategy and the interactions between global health law and EU health law in infectious disease control.
From 16 September to 15 October 2025
The Centre hosted Prof. Nuria Garrido Cuenca, Full Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). Prof. Garrido Cuenca’s research project focused on “The Environmental Impact of Pharmaceuticals: Regulatory Challenges and Comparative Legal Perspectives within the European Union”.
From October 2025 to July 2026
The Centre hosts Prof. Sergio M C Avila Negri, Associate Professor of Civil Law at the Law Faculty of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Brasil). Prof. Avila Negri will develop a research project on the topic “Artificial Intelligence and Health Data Governance: A Comparative Analysis between EU Law and Brazilian Law”.
